Who We Are
When viewing some of the intricate, ornate details on buildings constructed by Zagreb Construction, one immediately knows there are people leading the project that really understand how to create a great structure. Looking behind the company name, there is a family steeped in craftsmanship. This year Zagreb Construction celebrates 37th anniversary building all types of projects throughout British Columbia.
Dennis Bralic, took over the family business of 25 years and is now the president and owner of Zagreb Construction Inc. Dennis earned a Diploma in Civil and Structural Engineering from BCIT and a B.Sc. in Civil and Structural Engineering from UBC. However, he recalls his early years in the business. "My father immigrated to Canada in 1957 and began working as a carpenter for Benny Wosk on the Blue Boy Hotel. Soon he was a foreman who was also building houses on the side, and quickly he was building apartments and commercial projects, often as a developer. He knows what hard work is and as a young child he had me on sites from the day I could lift a hammer. For years, I was a labourer who gradually learned construction thoroughly during any school holidays. Once I completed my formal education, Dad offered me much more responsibility introducing me to consultants, clients and others who have been our 'partners' on so many projects."
During the growth of Zagreb, there was one person in control of the finances - mother and wife, Nada who credited with the financial strength of the company. Whether it was a few of Dan's Houses or Zagreb's own multi-family or commercial projects, Nada knew the costs to the penny. Clients of Zagreb Construction have particularly enjoyed the straight answers from Nada, her control over costs and the way she treats their money as though it was her own. Today, with computers and assistants, Zagreb offers financial reporting that is as sophisticated as is available.
Arthur Evaratt, CMA, of Everatt & Co., Accountants has known Nada since she worked for him as a bookkeeper. Mr. Everatt recalls, "When she left it was to work full time at Zagreb. They are all very straightforward, decent and professional businesspeople to work with. Their books are always in perfect order. They have done very well. In fact, I am a tenant in one of their buildings and very proud of our relationship."
In the Next Millenium
Building on Zagreb's 37 years of meeting clients' expectations is sure to be exciting. Their portfolio of projects is very diverse - schools, public meeting facilities, condominiums, resorts, industrial buildings and places of worship to name a few. Dennis has the education, experience, personal sense of integrity, and leadership skills that when combined will ensure all future clients will enjoy the same level of commitment to excellence that Dan and Nada built the company on.
